The Beef Smoothie Cleanse

First Things First

If you’re new to this blog, allow me to tell you a few things about myself. I am not a doctor. I am not a nutritionist. I am not your coach, holistic or otherwise. I am just a guy, 53 years old, who’s been on a low carb diet for 8 plus years, and loves the results: down 40 pounds from my all time highest weight of 230 pounds on a 6 foot frame (Ok, 5′ 11 1/2″ frame), feel fantastic almost all the time, rarely get sick, have fantastic bloodwork (very low trigl, very high HDL, etc. etc.).

The Basics

There are a lot of folks out there who think that for some reason a high carb, translate, high sugar, smoothie diet for X number of days is somehow “cleansing.” What I wonder is, how is it that drinking something that jacks up your insulin, and deprives you of what your body really wants and needs, ie. fat and protein, can be considered to be cleansing? I dunno, maybe so, after all, if I want to clean my bathtub, tossing some really caustic stuff like Ajax on there does seem to help. But my body isn’t my sink. I don’t think forcing a bunch of nondigestable matter (translate: fiber) and poison (ie, sugar) through the tubes is such a good idea. Those tubes are designed to process two things, FAT and PROTEIN. So, lets give it some fat and protein, then!

What is the Beef Smoothie Cleanse?

For however many days you want, all of your food intake will be in the form of beef smoothies! You can have as much as you want, calories don’t count on this diet. The beef smoothie diet has been designed to give your body exactly what it needs, in the perfect proportions. Beef has all the nutrients you need, and in fact, contrary to everything you’ve always heard, the saturated fat  found in meat and other sources is very, very good for your liver. In fact, if you want to clean your liver, and you probably should want to, the best way to go about that is to cut all the carbs outta your diet and pig down on some honest to god meat. All day long. Meat. Meat. Meat. Yeah baby!

I know, I know, you don’t buy it. Everyone knows saturated fat clogs your arteries, causes cancer, pollutes our rivers, murders small children, right? Would you believe me if I told you that saturated fat is actually very good for you? No? Would you believe it if NY Times best selling diet doctors told you the same thing? Take a look at Drs. Eades post 7 reasons to eat more saturated fat, from Tim Ferris’ (the 4 hour workweek guy) blog.  Turns out that really good solid science tells us that eating saturated fat is good for your heart, your lungs, your bones, your brain, you liver, and best of all, your immunity system (as I said above, I rarely get sick. In fact, I usually treat my sick days as bonus vacation days.).

In fact, saturated fat is so good for your liver, there is evidence, in lab animals, at least, that it prevents damage to your liver from alcohol. Check out this quote from the Drs. Eades in their new book The 6 Week Cure for the Middle Aged Middle:

When lab animals are fed saturated fat, researchers have trouble getting them to develop fatty livers even in the face of considerable alcohol intake. In many cases, ratcheting up the saturated fat intake can actually reduce the fat accumulation that is already there-even when the animals continue to consume alcohol.

Imagine the suprise and delight that your author, Mr. Beef and Whiskey, felt as he read these words! EVEN WHEN THE ANIMALS CONTINUE TO CONSUME ALCOHOL. Yee haaaa, bartender, pour me another!

(Please don’t get the idea that the Dr. Eades are suggesting that sat. fat prevents the damage alcohol can cause you. I may be suggesting that, but not them! In fact, their “Cure”, which I will be starting on and reporting on, very soon, forbids alcohol for the first two weeks and then only allows a very sad tiny little amount for the following two weeks. Sigh.)

Why Smoothies?

I dunno, just trying to get into the spirit of these cleansing programs you see everywhere, I guess. Personally, I think you’d be nuts to put some perfectly good beef through a blender. So, unless you have some sort of physical problem that prevents you from being able to chew, forget the blender. Fire up a grill and cook your meat however you like it. I’ll have mine rare, or medium rare at the most, please. Just rub both sides of a big thick fatty steak (ribeyes are my favorite) with olive oil, add salt and pepper, toss on a very hot fire, and there you go: Beef Heaven.

Who Should Not Do This Cleanse?

Lab mice, rabbits, horses, alien life forms. Should be suitable for all human life forms. If you’re diabetic or have any other kinda disease of any sort, you don’t really need me to tell you that you should never do anything I tell you, whether you have a doctor’s supervision or not. You dont need me to tell you that, do you? That said, diabetics going on low carb or even all meat diets regularly report going off their meds. Likewise for folks with high blood pressure. So if you have diabetes or high blood pressure, I strongly advise to do some serious research into low carb diets.

  1. pssst- Had you actually looked into the cleanse I am offering- it is not high in sugar (fruit or otherwise) but very high in protein and fat- just not animal derived sources, as well as very low GI vegetables. It’s not nice to slander without getting the facts.

    Hi Meghan,

You’re right, i didnt know what’s in your smoothie, since it appears I would have to pay 12 bucks for your ebook to find that out. Unless that info is somewhere else on your site that I didn’t notice? I googled green cleanse and found mosty recipes for high carby concoctions. Since yours is high fat high protein, then it might be a good thing. Just not as good as a beef smoothie!

so, when I get time, I’ll change the links to point to some sugary examples instead of your very healthy and fine shake. In the meantime, my readers, all three of them, will have to live with my slanderous ways.

  3. At first, I didn’t understand the comments until I cliked on “folks”. I’m not sure why you singled those particular “folks” out, but you did help me to decide to order the Eades’ new book.

Hi Lee, didn’t really mean to pick on Meghan and her green cleanse (even though I used the structure of her post as as sorta take off point), rather I was actually just mocking the notion of a green cleanse in general. She says her smoothie is high fat high protein, so it might be better than most. I’d love to see the ingredients, but I’m not curious enuff to pay her 12 bucks.

The Eades book is excellent, I plan to start the “Cure” very soon. Stay tuned!
